The
BRIEF.

When the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) committed to delivering the first UK-Africa Investment Summit, they turned to Live Group for support.

As the first of an ongoing calendar of annual Summits, the FCDO wanted to make an immediate and lasting impact with the delegation. The brief to Live Group was to deliver an event which would:

  • Position the UK as an ‘investment partner of choice’ for African countries.
  • Generate new opportunities in Africa for businesses across the UK, creating new jobs and encouraging growth in both countries.
  • Offer high levels of security for the host, Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Presidents and business leaders from 21 African countries, British politicians and business leaders, and members of the British Royal Family.

THE
SOLUTION.

End-to-end
delivery

Live Group provided end-to-end event management including:

  • Venue selection
  • Design and production
  • Staging and lighting
  • Event furniture and seating
  • Signage and banners
  • Show calling
  • Live streaming
  • Delegate management and catering
  • Subcontractor management
  • Security

Design and
production

The Live Group team took a lead on production, from initial CAD drawings at the outset through to installation on site.

Our creative team developed branding to be used across the event, brought together by an iconic ‘African Rainbow’ graphic which has remained the lead graphic for future annual UK-Africa Summits.

Our production team managed the event infrastructure including IT, camera and screen set-up, staging and lighting and show calling, with content streamed to a virtual audience via our digital event platform, Hive.

High
security

With so many high-profile guests and speakers, plus VIP lunches and a reception hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, security was a major operation.

We worked closely with the venue’s security staff to assess and mitigate risk, and cleared all logistical and security decisions with a representative Minister in Parliament.

The Live Group team was responsible for communicating security requirements to everyone involved in delivering the event, including briefings for VIP staff and full walk-throughs of the event journey for the highest-profile guests. We facilitated secure access to the event for VIPs and their staff, including making arrangements for secure accommodation and travel.
