Introduction

England is an increasingly multi-ethnic and multi-lingual society. Teachers and schools are at the forefront of responding to the challenges and opportunities this presents and contributing to building the communities of the future. Schools have also been subject to duties under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act to promote race equality.

To help teachers respond to these changes, Achieve is holding four regional events next spring. These events will provide attendees with access to bite-sized research to inform and develop their race equality practice. Ideas generated from the project will be used to support other teachers nationwide and inform GTC policy advice on promoting equality issues in schools.

The events are free, and supply cover and travel will be paid for Network members.

Race Equality and Your School

This project aims to:

  • further develop teachers’ knowledge and skills in race equality
  • introduce teachers to the GTC Teacher Learning Academy to structure professional learning
  • generate high quality information to share on the GTC web-site
  • inform GTC policy about the role of teachers in supporting their school meet the requirements of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000.
  • Launch Achieve Research of the Month Race Equality anthology to support teachers in developing sound race equality practice based on research evidence.

Following a year-long project to support teachers meet their schools duties under the RRA Act. We are expanding this project to include members from the wider Networks.

Teachers and other professionals in education interested in promoting race equality in schools are invited to join this project.

Participation in this project is as part of the GTC’s Achieve network, promoting race equality and diversity in schools. To find out more, or to join Achieve, visit the Achieve website.
