Headteacher and College Senior Managers 14-19 Conferences - Preparing for 2010 Baner

introduction

The DCSF in association with our partners ASCL, AOC, NAHT and NASUWT, would like to invite you to attend one of 5 regional events in June 2009. These events will provide you with an overview of the 14-19 education reforms, help your school or college prepare for Diploma teaching in September 2009 and explore what will be required to deliver the reforms in 2010.

The objectives of the conferences are for you to:

  • Take part in a strategic conversation with government about the 14-19 education reforms and the new requirement on all young people to participate in education or training until their 18th birthday
  • Learn from your colleagues about their experiences to date, including those who have been teaching Diplomas and those who have participated in the functional skills pilots
  • Have the opportunity to interact with Ministers

The conferences are aimed both at school and college leaders and at staff who will teach the reforms. Therefore, we invite you to bring two colleagues with you to the event of your choice - a senior member of staff charged with implementing 14-19 reform and a member of staff who has or may soon teach part of the Diplomas.

The agenda will include input on the role of Diplomas in the wider 14-19 developments, on pedagogy and on emerging practice.

Please register your attendance by selecting a location on the events map and completing the registration form.

If you are unable to attend, please consider nominating a suitable person to replace you and accompany other colleagues from your institution.

9th June 2009 - please see feedback below from delegates who attended the first set of events in Newcastle, Leeds and Middlesbrough.

“The idea of three conferences linked together via video was very impressive, the effect ensured intimate and personalised discussions and also facilitated interaction with a large number of colleagues. Usually such conferences would result in a 6-7 hour journey from London, so I would strongly recommend this style of conferences”

“I liked the approach allowing much discussion between people at the tables, lots of sharing of ideas”

“The Q&A session at the end presented some really good questions and comments”

“I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss how things are working and lessons learned from colleagues”

“The Q&A session at the end presented some very good questions and comments”

“I liked the use of technology, opportunity to hear from genuine practitioners who were prepared to be honest about their experiences (Bassetlaw) and I also enjoyed the Green emphasis”

“I was able to share our experiences with colleagues who have not yet embarked on Diploma planning/delivery which they appeared to find useful”

“I enjoyed being able to hear from Leaders/Institutions who are leading the way on Diploma provision”

“The roving microphone was a good catalyst for discussion and learning about current strengths and potential barriers from colleagues already engaged in the Diploma”
